Competition for the Modernization of Câmpina’s Central Area

Project overview

Head Made Architecture received the 3rd Prize in the public design competition organized by the Municipality of Câmpina in collaboration with the Romanian Order of Architects. The project focused on modernizing and revitalizing the city’s central area while respecting its historical identity and cultural heritage.

Design Approach

The proposal seeks to blend contemporary urban design with the memory of the past. Historic parcels and the former Main Street are reinterpreted in the pavement, using archival references and topographic data, allowing visitors to experience the old city structure.The design introduces the “Old Street Promenade” and “Merchants’ Square” as focal points—spaces for local markets, seasonal fairs, and cultural events that revive Câmpina’s vibrant commercial heritage.

A pedestrian spine, Carol I Boulevard, connects three distinct urban nodes: La Fântâna Square, Bradului Square with its amphitheater and Christmas tree, and the Urban Arena—a flexible platform for performances, festivals, and an ice rink in winter, offering panoramic views and cultural landmarks.

ROLE

I contributed as a co-author under the guidance of Letiția Barbuică, founder of Head Made Architecture. This project was developed during my final university years as part of my professional practice at her office.
